Madras HC stalls NLC’s solar power plant work in Virudhunagar district

MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras prime court on Tuesday stalled NLC’s solar power plant work in four villages in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu until March 26.

The division bench of justices T S Sivagnanam and R Tharani, which heard the petition filed by way of A Narayana Athimoolam of Tiruchuli, said the project could be stored in abeyance and ordered understand to NLC chairman and Jakson Engineers Ltd.


When the case got here up for listening to, the petitioner's counsel told the court that the NLC used to be going to set up solar power vegetation in four villages - Tiruchuli, Parattanatham, Thammanayackanpatti and Pillaiyarnatham. NLC, via Jakson Engineers Ltd, used to be buying a number of acres of land and used to be doing construction works in 1,000 acres of land, he said.


He said they had been encroaching on water our bodies and pathways. Also, they damaged electric poles. Their movements had resulted in villagers going through many problems, he said. People weren't able to get right of entry to water our bodies, including the the Narayana Cauvery (Gundar) river, in line with the petitioner. He said the companies had damaged pipelines and borewells.


Local other folks approached district officials with important details and advised them to prevent the companies from encroaching on the land and water our bodies. But there used to be no action from the officials.
