Man dies during treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, kin stage protest

BHUBANESWAR: Kin of a patient, who died in AIIMS Bhubaneswar early on Sunday morning, staged demonstration in entrance of the sanatorium right here difficult motion towards the docs and different sanatorium personnel for misbehaving with them.

They also leveled allegations towards the docs and sanatorium personnel of scientific negligence. Locals also joined with the family members in the demonstration. Later they lodged a criticism with the Khandagiri police towards the scientific personnel.

Sources said Nandakishore Pradhan, 78, of Chotraipur in the city was admitted in the emergency ward of the AIIMS at round 3 am on Sunday. He was feeling ache in his chest. He died after 20 minutes.

Sushant Kumar Pradhan, son of the deceased, said the scientific personnel had started misbehaving with the attendants of the patient from the beginning. “They were not cooperating with us in getting a bed in the casualty ward and oxygen for my father. We had argument with the personnel over these issues. Suddenly they started abusing us. Even the docs assaulted me. Later different scientific personnel joined with them,” he alleged.


Medical authorities denied allegations leveled via the family members of the patient. Gitanjali Batmanabane, director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, said the 78-year-old man got here to sanatorium in a very vital condition. “He was almost definitely having heart assault. Our docs supplied vital remedy and oxygen to the patient in an instant. In fact, family members of the patient treated the docs very badly,” she added.


She said they went during the CCTV footages and found docs didn't beat up the family members of the deceased patient. “We have performed postmortem at the body of the patient. He died because of huge cardiac arrest. There isn't any fact in the allegation of scientific negligence,” she added.


Hospital authority has lodged a criticism with the native police in regards to the incident. Later the director met dual city police commissioner Y B Khurania and mentioned with him about security of docs and scientific personnel within the campus.


City DCP Satyabrat Bhoi said the commissionerate police have received complaints from each the events. “But we've no longer registered any case yet. We are examining the case after sending the body for postmortem. The situation is customary now,” he added.
