Men on big bikes: Govt’s ambassadors for women

Chennai: Garbed in windcheaters and carrying darkish shades, 15 city techies, maximum of them of their overdue 20s, fixed their Royal Enfields and Harleys on Thursday to coast around three,000km within the state. In a step away from its usual celebration to mark International Women’s day, the social welfare department has joined fingers with a city-based bikers’ club, to unfold the phrase on rules that offer protection to women, amongst young males.


Over the course of the following 24 days, the bikers will travel through 12 districts within the state that see prime crime incidence in opposition to women and girls. V Amuthvalli, director of social welfare department stated, those districts had been identified according to incidence of kid marriage, college dropout rates and deficient health indicators. It’s time we trained our males,” she stated. The rally was once inaugurated by social welfare minister V Saroja on Thursday.


Kaushik Murthy, founder of Your BHP Motoring club, whose staff might be visiting identified executive and private faculties, stated, the method won’t be mere distribution of pamphlets. The whole purpose of the workout, he stated, is to engage males in women’s tasks.
