MARGAO: With less than a fortnight to move earlier than the mining industry within the state shuts operations following the latest Supreme Court judgement, mining companies have been brazenly flouting all regulations governing ore transportation. What’s worse is the truth that government desire to look the wrong way, thereby permitting those companies and shipping contractors to have a box day.
Heavy rush of mining vehicles transporting iron ore is witnessed all alongside the Codli-Capxem and Rivona-Tilamol-Capxem routes, and from early morning to late night time hours mining vehicles can also be seen shifting bumper to bumper.
“In a bid to achieve the jetties in time and to make most selection of trips, velocity limits are being violated with impunity, with traffic police remaining mute spectators. We were informed that GPS units and velocity governors have been fitted on vehicles to keep a check on violations. Has the law enforcing machinery within the state collapsed? Or has the Supreme Court requested the federal government to allow miners to violate all regulations earlier than the shutdown?” a visibly agitated Dabhal resident Pandharinath Naik mentioned.
Truck homeowners admit that they have been requested not to fear about time restrictions and that they will be allowed to make as many trips as they wish to. And in a bid to make that additional greenback, it’s utter chaos that regulations at the killer roads of South Goa’s mining belts.

This system could also be required to be followed within the reverse route - from the unloading level to the vacation spot. Regulations are found to be violated because the February 7 Supreme Court requiring shutting down all 89 mining rentals from March 16.
“Despite the truth that a number of innocent lives have been misplaced at the roads owing to senseless mining traffic, the government have, sadly, failed to bring about any sense of discipline or order at the mining roads. This simplest is going to support the realization of the typical man that the federal government bows to the dictates of the mining lobby,” Pradip Kakodkar, who heads Mission Bypass, a forum preventing for the cause of justice to mining affected people, informed TOI.
A delegation of Mission Bypass on Wednesday presented a memorandum to the Quepem deputy collector, urging him to take important action to rein within the reckless mining transportation.
