Isro gears up to launch 2 satellites before Chandrayaan-2 mission

NEW DELHI: Amid intense arrangements for its maximum challenging Chandrayaan-2 challenge, Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is gearing up to launch two different satellites earlier than the lunar challenge in April.

Talking to TOI, Isro chairman Dr K Sivan stated, “The first launch will probably be of GSLV Mk II carrying Gsat-6A satellite via the top of March. Soon thereafter, we will launch navigation satellite IRNSS-1I that will probably be lifted off via PSLV C-41 within the first week of April. Preparations for those two launches are currently occurring at Sriharikota.”

Gsat-6A, very similar to Gsat-6, is a high-powered S-band communication satellite weighing 2,140 kg. It will provide a platform for growing applied sciences that would be useful in future satellite-based cellular communication packages.

IRNSS-1I, however, is a navigation satellite that is supposed to replace the inaccurate first navsat IRNSS-1A, part of the Indian navigation device or NavIC or desi GPS. The three atomic clocks of the IRNSS-1A that had been supposed to offer actual locational information had stopped operating two years in the past. Last yr on August 31, Isro had introduced navsat IRNSS-1H to replace the inaccurate satellite. However, the IRNSS-1H were given stuck within the heat shield of the rocket and the challenge failed. IRNSS-1I is, subsequently, being introduced to replace the primary navsat. Currently, there are seven navsats within the orbit masking India and a area extending 1,500 km around it that offer real-time positioning and timing products and services.

On the Chandrayaan-2 challenge, the Isro chairman stated, “Preparations for the challenge are in complete swing. All the desired checks are occurring. The proper time to launch the challenge comes best as soon as in a month. Therefore, we hope to launch it at the proper time in April,” he stated.

Dr Sivan stated, “As Isro is launching one of these complicated challenge involving an orbiter, lander and a rover for the primary time, we need to take additional precautions. If because of some glitch we aren't able to launch in April, then we will attempt to launch the challenge in October-November. If we launch the challenge in between, we gained’t get most receive advantages because of eclipses. To utilise the whole lunar day (14 Earth days) for the moon exploration, the most efficient time to launch the challenge after April will probably be after October.”
