VELLORE: Tension gripped passengers at the Dibrugarh–Kanyakumari Vivek Express after they heard a noisy sound from under the train when it used to be nearing Pudur gate in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday evening.
One of the passengers pulled the emergency alarm chain at 5.30pm and taken the train to a surprising halt one kilometre away from Vaniyambadi railway station.
When the train got here to a halt, the scared passengers stormed out of the coaches, mentioned the railway officers.
Loco pilot and guards checked the train and located that some miscreants had placed stones at the track. When the rail wheel ran over the stones, it created a noisy sound. Mistaking it for an explosion, the passengers had panicked and pulled the chain, he added.
