Rly police’s NGO to rescue runaway kids

Coimbatore: A staggering five,200 runaway youngsters have been rescued at railway stations across the state during the last three years, said the superintendent of police, executive railway police (GRP), Georgy George, here on Thursday. In the past two months, as many as 166 youngsters, including 12 women, have been rescued at Tamil Nadu railway stations.
At least 2,068 runaway youngsters have been rescued in 2017 by myself, out of which 226 have been women, the officer said.

Georgy George was once within the city to inaugurate the NGO Udhayam, an initiative of the GRP to rescue runaway youngsters and save you child trafficking in railway stations and trains across the state, in Coimbatore Railway Junction. He said porters, auto drivers, name taxi drivers and vendors can be its individuals and they'd be given volunteer cards. As many as 261 such folks were given volunteer cards on the city railway junction.


The GRP had introduced Udhayam in Chennai Central and Salem Railway Junction previously two days. “We will quilt the entire railway stations across the state and it's going to lend a hand us to rescue the runaway youngsters found on the railway stations, which can be the a very powerful points. The volunteers will paintings round-the-clock outside and inside the railway stations. We have asked them to inform the police if they have been to find youngsters roaming within the railway station premises,” Goergy George said.


Pointing out that it was once extremely unimaginable for the railway police to watch the children round the clock, he said the volunteers would lend a hand them rescue the runaway youngsters and save you child trafficking.


The GRP, he said, had rescued 1,458 youngsters, including 207 women, in 2015 and 2,370 youngsters, of them 272 women, in 2016.
