Senior IPS officer quits, likely to enter politics

MUMBAI/HYDERABAD: Additional DGP (making plans and coordination) V V Laxminarayanan has submitted an application for voluntary retirement from carrier.

Speculation is rife that the 1990 IPS batch officer would possibly sign up for politics, but Laxminarayanan didn't reply to textual content messages from TOI. Maharashtra DGP Satish Mathur showed to TOI that Laxminarayanan had submitted an application for voluntary retirement for “non-public causes”. In the development his resignation is approved, he'll be 3rd IPS officer to quit and sign up for politics. Former Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh, a 1980 batch IPS officer, took voluntary retirement on January 31, 2014, and effectively contested the Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candiate from Baghpat, UP. Subsequently, he was inducted into the Narendra Modi Cabinet as minister of state for human resource. Additional director basic (particular operations) P K Jain quit on February 28, 2014, and joined Ramdas Athavale-led RPI. After a short lived length, he quit RPI and he is now a member of the Police Complaint Authority.


IPS officer K L Prasad took voluntary retirement, but didn't sign up for any political birthday celebration. Laxminarayanan, a made of Warangal’s National Institute of Technology and IIT Madras, shot into limelight after he took over the investigations into a chain of scams in Andhra Pradesh. Laxminarayan took hobby in the ‘Lead India’ campaign promoted through then President A P J Abdul Kalam.


After a stint of seven years, he was repatriated to Maharashtra and posted as joint commissioner, Thane. When he was transferred on promotion to the DG’s place of business, there was a protest in Thane. Laxminarayanan appeared to be unsatisfied over the way in which he was sidelined. He was posted as ADG (administration) and later as ADG (making plans and coordination), each assignments are thought to be as ‘side-postings’.
