Women who have no political background should enter politics, says Varun Gandhi

COIMBATORE: Young women, who haven't any political background, must input politics, member of Lok Sabha representing Sultanpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh Varun Gandhi said here on Friday.
Reservation for girls in elections is being exploited by men, the BJP MP said whilst talking at ‘Youth Conclave for Nation Building’, a seminar held at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology. “In villages where seats are reserved for girls, politically tough men make their mothers, other halves or sisters contest in elections and win. Men use this to rule in proxy,” he said.

Across the world, youngsters are the use of technology and social media to spearhead social campaigns and create sure political agenda, the 37-year-old chief said. “A campaign like MeToo revitalised feminism. It was once started to handle sexual harassment, but it surely went beyond to handle problems corresponding to equal pay, equal alternative and gender justice,” he said.

“There are only 11% women in Parliament and 52% in the assemblies. Considering that we have 52% women in our nation, it is a disgrace,” Varun said and added that he was once for a machine of direct democracy where folks mater more.

“I had subsidized the Right to Recall coverage in Parliament. If an elected candidate isn't performing or dealing with grave fees, there must be spontaneous polling in 10 random places. If 80% folks vote in opposition to the candidate, there must be a by-election in the candidate’s constituency,” Varun said, adding that it had not made him a well-liked figure in Parliament.


“I am in public life as a result of I have a famous surname. If I had another surname, I don't have been known,” the Gandhi scion said. The political machine must be revolutionised to let folks decide what Parliament will debate, he urged.


Saying that providing transferable skills must be the key purpose of training, Varun cited several examples of the way electorate across the nation, via their projects, have led to adjustments in their localities.


Winding up his speech, he asked the students to tweet him the reasons they believe he must take up. “You have as much right over me as folks from Sultanpur,” he concluded.
