34 years after 1984 anti-Sikh riots, victim gets 5lakh as compensation

JAMSHEDPUR: It was once a closure of types for Manjeet Kaur, who received a reimbursement of Rs 5 lakh introduced via Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the family of sufferers of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots soon after he came to power in 2014.

Originally from Golmuri in Steel City, Kaur, who is now 42 and lives together with her husband Sukhbir Singh in Delhi, was once 8 years old when her father Prabhjot Singh was once killed via the rioters in Govindpur within the riots that erupted after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, via her Sikh bodyguards.


"I was studying and my mother was cooking when some people knocked at our door on the night of October 31, 1984. They told us that my father had been murdered in the violence," mentioned Kaur, soon after receiving the reimbursement from the district management on Friday night time. Kaur's father, who was once a truck motive force and the lone bread-winner within the circle of relatives, was once assaulted with sharp guns via rioters.
