Christians to mark renewal of faith on Easter today

MUMBAI: The festival of Easter, the best occasion of joy for Christians worldwide, might be celebrated on Sunday. It indicates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the grave two days after he used to be crucified on Good Friday.
The abstinence of Lent ended on Friday, and celebrations started at Easter mass on Saturday night time. The archbishop of Bombay Oswald Cardinal Gracias performed mass at Holy Name Cathedral at 8pm.

The provider at St Francis Xavier Church in Parksite, Vikhroli, bore a novel contact. Fr Hubert Goveas celebrated the Risen Christ with a song from the Hindi movie Ram Balram. He sang for the congregation, ‘Humse bhool ho gayi, hamka maafi de do’. He said to TOI: “My theme for Easter is forgive and put out of your mind, so it suits well, doesn’t it?” Then he soberly said that one of the best ways to unfold the message of Christ’s sacrifice is to make use of humour and track to attract and retain attention.

Catholics and non-Catholics alike enjoy the chocolates which can be ready in this festival. The aroma of confectionery permeates the air, in Bandra West specifically, for the large number of bakeries and home cooks who get ready Easter sweets on this suburb.

Young Angie D’Souza of Home Fork serves traditional marzipan, milk cream and chocolate eggs and chocolates delightfully shaped like yellow chicks, bunny rabbits and bonnets. “We use rum essence for rum truffles since actual rum requires a liquor licence. Our barbecue beef and roast could be very fashionable too,” she says.

Malad has an assortment of significant cooks too. Johanna D’Souza of Jojo’s, Orlem, says, “We have an Easter surprise egg which is filled with chocolate bunnies. Light fruit cake which is a vanilla base with cranberries, apricot and raisin could be very fashionable. Apart from that there are types like marzipan, chocolate fudge, rum and raisin, vodka and cranberry, and coconut.”
