Fake Rs 2,000 notes smuggled from Bangladesh seized in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM : Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Visakhapatnam regional unit, seized over Rs 10 lakh in faux foreign money from two passengers of East Coast express train near Visakhpatnam on Saturday. The Fake Indian Currency Notes were were in 5 bundles of Rs 2,000 denomination foreign money notes. According to DRI, the faek foreign money notes were found wrapped in newspaper and hidden within a pillow within their baggage.

On wondering the accused persons, who belong to Bengaluru, printed that they intended to exchange the faux notes during the impending Karnataka assembly elections. They further reportedly stated that they had obtained the notes from a person, who, in turn, had obtained the faux foreign money from Bangladesh and handed them over to the accused at Farakka, which is with reference to Malda in West Bengal. Malda is notorious for Fake Indian Currency Notes. It is considered to be a hub for faux foreign money.


Interestingly, one of the most men stands accused in a kidnap case and was arrested via Bengaluru police. He was out on bail these days.


Both the men were booked under the provisions of Customs Act 1962. DRI further director common in a press free up stated that further investigation into the case is in progress.
