50 supporters of TTV Dhinakaran arrested after clash

COIMBATORE: Fifty supporters of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) chief TTV Dhinakaran had been arrested after a violent clash erupted between them and AIADMK cadre close to Vadavalli within the city on Thursday evening.
According to police assets, AMMK contributors participated in an indoor assembly hung on Vadavalli-Thondamuthur Road on Thursday evening. When they had been returning home after the assembly in additional than 25 cars, a gaggle of AIADMK cadres gathered on Vadavalli-Thondamuthur Road and started to assault the cars belonging to Dhinakaran's supporters. More than 10 cars had been damaged within the clash. To condemn the assault, TTV supporters blocked the busy Vadavalli Road for more than an hour.

R P Nagarajan, secretary of AMMK, Ramanathapuram, told TOI that the Coimbatore south district unit of the birthday party had decided to habits 9 indoor conferences in 9 other spaces to develop the birthday party and building up the cadre base. Four conferences had been already over and the fifth indoor assembly was supposed to happen in a wedding at Vadavalli.

But AIADMK cadre besieged the house of the marriage corridor owner and threatened him not to provide the corridor to AMMK. “So, we shifted the venue of the indoor assembly to the area secretary's space located at Lakshmi Nagar on Vadavalli-Thondamuthur Road,” he stated.

“When we had been returning to our homes in cars after the assembly, we had been waylaid by way of more than 200 AIADMK cadres who attacked the cars. More than 10 cars had been damaged within the clash. Windshields and glasses had been damaged,” stated Nagarajan. Though supporters of Dhinakaran controlled to escape, a couple of women cadres suffered minor accidents.

To condemn the assault, Challenger Durai, secretary of AMMK, and more than 200 cadres blocked Marudhamalai Road. They demanded motion in opposition to the AIADMK cadres.


Only one police officer was on the spot and tried to pacify the protestors. Senior police officials reached the spot around 10.30pm and held talks with the protesters.


When the protesters intensified their protest, the police arrested 50 supporters of TTV.


" AIADMK leaders are not ready to accept our growth. So, they indulged in violence. We conveyed the issues to our leader. We are demanding the police to take stringent action against the AIADMK cadres who were involved in the clash, " stated Nagarajan.
