SECUNDERABAD: The Local Military Authority (LMA) on Tuesday reopened all of the roads, that have been closed, within the military space in Secunderabad.
After a gap of four years, the roads are now obtainable to citizens. LMA has acted on the choice taken through the Ministry of Defence to open all of the closed roads in 62 cantonments around the country. Though the announcement was once made on Sunday, the LMA, which was once waiting for formal orders, reopened the roads on Tuesday.
The roads have been closed with out following the process laid down within the Cantonments Act 2006. “The LMA on receipt of written directions lifted restrictions on all roads,” mentioned an official press release. However, the LMA did not release the list of roads on which restrictions were lifted. Army men posted at entrance of the close roads have been withdrawn after they have been opened.
The LMA spent about ?70 lakh on putting in place barricades and gates to permanently shut all roads. But the MoD’s announcement has come as a significant reduction to 1000's of people, who move these roads.
“The opening of roads must be completed on want basis. People must not see it as their victory. They must cooperate with the army authorities conserving in view the country’s safety,” mentioned Major (retired) Shiva Kiran.
Secunderabad Cantomment Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Tuesday celebrated the opening of the closed roads. They carried out ‘Palaabhishekam’ to the portrait of Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the AOC circle. Army officials videographed the celebrations.
Commuters welcomed the reopening of the roads. As the MoD mentioned closure of roads shall be taken up afresh in response to the requirement after following rules, it's unlikely that all of the roads reopened on Tuesday would remain open on everlasting basis. Some roads could also be closed later mentioning safety or other reasons, sources mentioned.
