Bhubaneswar: Passengers stranded as overhead electric wire snapped in squall

BHUBANESWAR: Hundreds of educate passengers had been stranded at several railway stations on Howrah-Chennai main line and Khurda Road- Puri line after heavy rain along side gusty wind damaged overhead electrical twine near Sarkantara between Lingaraj and Retang station in the city.
Sources said a 33 kv high stress twine of the central electrical energy provide application (CESU) passed over the rail line came involved with the overhead electrical energy (OHE) twine of the railway line due to gusty wind at round 9.30 am. After the CESU twine fell at the OHE twine, the later were given snapped disrupting the rail products and services for round 5 hours.

Soon after the incident, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) stopped operating of trains between Lingaraj and Retang stations. It managed more than 10 trains at other stations till the road is cleared at round 2 pm.

It stopped Angul-Puri Passenger educate at Bhubaneswar from 10.10 am. Similarly, it managed Tata-Kacheguda Special educate at Mancheswar from 9.40 am, Talcher-Puri Passenger at Mancheswar from 10.10am, Bhadrak-Bhubaneswar Passenger at Barang from 10.03 am, Puri-Cuttack Passenger at Retang from 9.37 am, Palasa-Cuttack Passenger at Khurda Road from 10.53 am, Secunderabad-Howrah Falaknuma Express at Tapang from 11.10 am, Bangalore Cant-Bhubaneswar Express at Nirakarpur from 10.45 am, Puri-Santragachhi Passengers at Delang from 10. 50 am and Puri-New Delhi Nandankanan Express at Puri.

The ECoR also cancelled four trains and in part cancelled 3 trains following the incident.


“I along side my spouse and child had been going Bhubaneswar to regard my son at a non-public health facility. The doctor had requested me to return at 11.45 am. But the educate stopped at Khurda Road at round 10.55 am. I in the end booked an auto rickshaw to return NH 16 and then came Bhubaneswar by a bus by spending Rs 250,” said Banahari Barik of Ganjam district.


Some passengers, whose educate was stranded at Retang, came to main highway by strolling. Some passengers needed to wait till the road is cleared.


“Our engineering and electrical workforce straight away reached the spot and began repairing the OHE twine. Up line were given able by 12.10 pm. The common line was cleared by 1.20 pm and the down line were given clearance at round 2 pm. After examining the security of the road, we began operating trains,” said ECoR leader spokesperson J P Mishra.


Passengers had been also were given caught at Bhubaneswar railway station for more than 5 hours as the principle line was blocked for repairing work. Entry point of the station near the enquiry counter were given flooded due to heavy downpour. Holes at the roof of the station allowed water to go with the flow into the station house. “We will repair the holes. Work will start from the next day,” said Mishra.
