Chennai: Flying to small towns easier but costly

CHENNAI: Flying to small towns from Chennai has turn out to be simple because of direct flights, however the last-minute fare is still high.
If you might be travelling by flight to Mysore, Kozhikode, Mangalore, Vizag, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry on Sunday or Monday, the air fare is within the vary of ?3,000 to ?7,200, which is analogous to and even upper than the fare to Delhi.

Though the federal government is selling regional connectivity, the fare stays a stumbling block to attract flyers to those small towns. However, airline officers say that the fare stays high because of the demand.

For a 50-minute flight at the Chennai-Salem route, the price ticket was priced at ?11,000 a couple of hours ahead of the departure of the flight on Saturday. The fare is ?4,699 for commute on Sunday and ?4,100 for Monday. The service to Salem was began below the regional connectivity scheme, which provides a fare cap for the primary few seats. A price ticket to Mangalore is priced at ?7,248 while the fare to Tuticorin is ?6,767, which is more expensive than the maximum fare to Delhi. The fare is within the vary of ?4,282 to ?5,681 at the Chennai-Delhi route for commute within the subsequent two days.

Though airlines have been making plans schedules so that you could enable travellers to return the same day, the fare stays an obstacle. An airline reliable said just a few seats have been sold at cheaper rates. “More flights will likely be added to one of the vital routes in response to the demand. Airlines will look at the patronage and then make a decision to add flights,” he added.

Basheer Ahmed of Metro Travels said, “The fare is high because of the demand for commute and fewer flights. There are only one or two flights to many small towns. The selection of seats may be less because airlines use 70-seater planes. The fare will come down when the frequencies increase.”

SpiceJet lately offered an extra flight at the Chennai-Kozhikode route. The route now has two direct flights day-to-day. Similarly, other airlines too have larger their flights in response to the patronage. IndiGo, SpiceJet and TruJet have offered direct flights from Chennai to those locations because of the possible generated by regional connectivity scheme. Udan flights have a fare cap of ?2,500 for the primary few seats. However, low cost carriers have began flying to many smaller airports without collaborating within the Udan scheme.
