Elections to co-operative societies marred by protests

Tirupur: Elections to the posts of co-operative societies have grew to become out to be a high stakes game for ruling AIADMK and the principal opposition party DMK so much that the method has been marred via protests.
On Monday, police had to lathicharge the protesting DMK males at Tirupur, who broke police cordon and barged into the place of job of the Tirupur Co-operative Housing Credit Society on Kumaran Road where the elections have been scheduled. The applicants of the opposition parties have been stopped via the police in front of the premises on Kumaran Road. Enraged that they weren't being allowed to contest the elections, DMK cadres along with CPM individuals shoved aside the police and entered the premises resulting in chaos and scuffle. Police resorted to lathicharge and chased them away.

A few cadres have been injured within the incident. They later resorted to a slogan shouting protest outdoor the premises. The election was in the end cancelled.

Election officer Shoba introduced that she has cancelled the election as a result of she didn't get the desired co-operation from the applicants. “The election stands cancelled as there is not any co-operation from the applicants in filing nominations. The applicants failed to stand in queue and filed the nominations within the prescribed approach,” she said.

Earlier within the day, AIADMK applicants had entered the society in presence of a heavy deployment of police team of workers. They filed nominations accompanied via AIADMK Tirupur city secretary and former state minister MSM Anandan. “Police stopped most effective DMK applicants,” former mayor and DMK North district secretary Okay Selvaraj said. Condemning the lathicharge, he alleged that the reputable equipment was hand in glove with the ruling party to stop DMK males from contesting.

It was now not just Tirupur, the elections have been marred via protests in Coimbatore, Salem as well as several different parts of the state, because the nominations of DMK males have been both rejected or they weren't allowed to document them. At Selliampalayam in Salem, DMK and AIADMK males attacked each and every different with wood logs during filing of nominations. Elsewhere in Salem too there were a minimum of 3 protests via DMK males accusing the officers of now not accepting their nominations.

With crores of rupees accrued as loans from funding agencies and deposits from individuals, the societies have all the time been a hotbed of corruption. A society will have to have at least 25 individuals and there is not any cap on the maximum choice of individuals. Elections are performed to the posts of directors, who run the society, each 5 years. But the elections are in large part influenced via the political party in energy and in the end most effective the individuals from the ruling party win.
