Farmer couple in Periyapatna cultivates 15 varieties of ladies finger

Mysuru: Organic farming is no longer just a buzzword that conjures up the ones residing in cities to leave their highly profitable and traditional, ‘Nine to 5’ jobs and return to the roots, and until the soil to harvest the dividends of their labour. Tucked away in a small village in Periyapatna taluk, a farmer couple has effectively controlled to cultivate 15 different forms of women finger the usage of organic approach.
With the assistance of the city-based NGO Sahaja Samrudha, farmer couple Shankar and Roopa have controlled to harvest a rich yield of girls finger crop – all 15 sorts are of Indian beginning – on their part acre plot in Hittnehebbagilu village in Periyapatna taluk. The NGO had organised Field Day on May 17 to encourage farmers to develop indigenous forms of vegetables.

The seeds of the various forms of women finger and different vegetables have been amassed by Sahaja Seeds, an organisation that has collected them at crop and agriculture fairs held around the nation. It used to be from Sahaja Seeds that Shankar and Roopa controlled to get the seeds for their plot.

Star okra from Odisha, red bhindi from Puducherry, Sri bhindi from Sri Lanka, besides breeds local to Karnataka are amongst the ones which have been cultivated by Shankar and Roopa, in what used to be an experiment to look if different breeds of girls finger might be grown under the similar climactic prerequisites.
