Farmers demand action against textile bleaching units

Tirupur: A bunch of farmers from Anaipalayam have petitioned the district management against 4 textile bleaching gadgets situated on the banks of Noyyal river that allegedly unlock industrial effluents into the river and its canals.

They asked authorities to take action against the gadgets, which allegedly violate 0 liquid discharge (ZLD) norms, to avoid wasting the river and also the Anaipalayam irrigation tank. Agriculture on 600 acres will depend on the water from the tank, the farmers said.


“We have seen 4 bleaching gadgets liberating untreated industrial effluents into the open land, which then flow into the river and also to the primary canal of Anaipalayam tank. The most recent example was once on last Friday, when probably the most gadgets involved in the violation all through night time. When we puzzled, the unit owners threatened us,” D Karuppasamy, a farmer, said.


“Only not too long ago, the farmers have collectively taken steps to desilt the tank and its canals in addition to strengthening its bunds, on supervision of the general public works department. But, the ones bleaching gadgets continue to violate the environmental norms in the region,” he added.
