KOLKATA: Inspired through the nostalgic competition between two football giants — Mohun Bagan and East Bengal — of Kolkata, the Bengali diaspora in the UK will prepare a fan football event at London’s Slough Town Football Club on July 22.
Christened IFA Shield UK — on the lines of IFA Shield Kolkata — the idea that no longer most effective taps the Bengali love for football but also rekindles the everlasting Bangal-Ghoti struggle that the GenY (particularly in the UK) is almost blind to. The tournament will even come with an ilish-chingri meals festival. Only, IFA here stands for the Indian Fans Association of the UK.
Three East Bengal and three Mohun Bagan fan groups will play round robin to come to a decision the finalists. But there is a twist to the event — suits shall be performed most effective between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan fan groups. An East Bengal fan workforce will never play some other East Bengal workforce. The similar is going for Mohun Bagan fan groups. The 20-minute video games, split in two halves, will have a five-minute destroy.
“We are pushing the in a different way no longer very gym-going diaspora to the football grounds,” said Anirban Mukhopadhyay, key member of the London Sarad Utsav (LSU) that is organizing the event as part of its Bengal Heritage Project that took off ultimate yr to advertise Bengal’s cultural heritage in England. The tournament has National Health Service, UK, as its spouse.
The groups had been named after football legends. The 3 Mohun Bagan aspects had been named after Sailen Manna, Shivdas Bhaduri and Sudip Chatterjee and East Bengal groups after Christian Junior, Ahmed Khan and Krishanu Dey.
The gala tournament turns out to have stuck the diaspora’s imagination. Weekly follow sessions have started at Slough, Hounslow and Harrow. “The alternative (of enjoying football wearing jerseys of their favorite clubs) has evoked a lot pleasure,” said Londoner Samrat Chakraborty. Among the ones he’ll play towards is 16-year-old Booklyn Don Mapfumo, who performs for Chelsea U17 as the main striker, and is now within the Mohun Bagan workforce. Each workforce will have a participant from the EU.
“Each workforce has eight avid gamers, whilst 14 names may also be registered in each and every workforce. A workforce should have two kids within the 13-16 age crew. The groups can check in maximum 3 non-Bengali or EU or British avid gamers, but can play most effective two at a time,” said researcher Abhishek Dutta, who shall be going from Belgium to be part of the “football festival”.
