CHENNAI: When senior officials of Indian medication boasted to a visiting Union minister of state on Wednesday about having world class amenities at Arignar Anna Government Hospital of Indian Medicine, a couple of blocks away patients were sharing their bed and breakfast with stray cats.

Duty docs, postgraduates and nurses within the wards were engaged in debates on who gets the fitting dose of drugs or oil massage and who's struggling probably the most. When bread and milk arrived for breakfast, cats jumped directly to the beds. A nurse used to be heard cautioning some patients, who claimed to have comfort in sharing their bread with their new furred pals. “They could have parasites. These animals have not had their pictures and have not been dewormed. You have an infection and this animal could make it worse,” she said shooing away the cat, which then walked into labour ward of Siddha division.
In the labour ward, women had extra to fret than cats. The bedspreads haven’t been changed for a number of days and the toilets aren’t cleaned frequently. “We wash our bedspreads on our personal. We don’t have a place to clean and dry our garments. Clothes are hung everywhere in the wards,” said Sarawathi S, whose daughter is admitted to feminine ward. Her neighbour briefly added: “We have to guard our garments carefully as we're scared rats would bite on them.”
There were cats in all most all wards of the hospitals together with massage rooms (panchakarma) of Ayurveda and aromatherapy wards of Naturopathy. Hospital authorities said they have got informed corporation about the problem. “We tell patients not feed these cats, but they inspire them. We will a have insurrection of something occurs to those cats,” a senior administrator, who refused to be quoted.
