Kremlin says still waiting for US talks to set up Putin-Trump summit

MOSCOW: The Kremlin said on Friday it used to be still looking ahead to substantive talks with the United States to arrange a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.


Trump said in March that the two leaders would meet quickly, however since then already poor ties between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated additional over the struggle in Syria and the poisoning of a former Russian undercover agent in Britain.


Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed journalists on a conference call on Friday that there used to be still no clarity on a possible meeting between the two leaders and that no additional steps had been taken by way of Washington to organize it.


"We are waiting," Peskov said.
