Metro officials said there will be an instantaneous teach from Central Metro every 10 mins all the way through height hours and at an period of 20 mins all the way through non-peak hours. "As the number of passengers goes up, we will increase the overall frequency and operate trains every five minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during non-peak hours," an official said. "We are also considering extension of the duration of train services in the morning and at night."
The Central Metro spread across 70,000sq. will cater to commuters of suburban and MRTS products and services in addition to the ones arriving at Central Railway Station. The same is going for Egmore metro, which has been built with reference to Egmore station, the last level for many south-bound trains. "We hope to see an increase in footfall, now that Central and Egmore are open," a senior official said. At present, only one entry level built adjacent to Park suburban station is open. It is manner commuters from Central and Moore Market Complex will have to pass the road to get admission to the ability.
However, the shuttle between Central metro and Airport will now be thru a roundabout route by way of Kilpauk, Shenoy Nagar, Anna Nagar, Koyambedu and Alandur, as the stretch between May Day Park to AG-DMS on Anna Salai, which terminates at airport, could be ready by means of end of the 12 months. "But for a passenger who arrives on a long-distance train at Central railway station intending to head to the airport, metro train is the most convenient transport option as it is not only cheap but also faster than a cab or an auto," said M Sreenivasan, one of the most first passengers to take a ride at Central.
As the much-anticipated Central metro has in spite of everything opened its doorways to commuters, Anna Salai saw the launch of a portion of the underground segment after a delay of greater than two years. For commuters, the road between AG-DMS and Little Mount is an important as the stations are positioned subsequent to MTC stops the place buses bound for southern suburbs halt.
The hassle-free mode of transport, experts hope will take more four-wheelers off the road. Nashwa Naushad, affiliate on the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, said just about 40% commute in non-public vehicles. While the extension will rather increase the general public transit mode share, the increase will also be considerably advanced if last-mile connectivity is sorted. "At present, the ridership for metro rail is at 30,000 and MTC caters to 4.5 lakh a day. When both metro and buses improve, public transport will become popular and by that time, we should have fare integration ready where a passenger can swipe one card across all public transport," said Naushad.
