NAVI MUMBAI: Just 3 days since the Kharghar residents enthusiastically carried out a tree plantation drive between sectors 19 and 18, with a purpose to highlight the will to protect the water body, there was a big setback as fresh debris dumping took place around the pond on Wednesday morning.
The native activists have again written letters to Cidco and the Wetlands Body Committee about this newest debris dumping at the web site.
"We are all saddened to understand that truckloads of debris was once again dumped into the web site next to the waterbody. If this continues, then the pond will soon vanish. We have again written to Cidco; and if the government don't want to do the rest, then we will have no different option however to means the courts,'' said native activist Nareshchandra Singh.
Some of the locals have also clicked photos and movies of the debris crammed dumper shifting into the pond's neighborhood to offload its contents at the spot. The same has also been tweeted to the state chief minister's workplace and different cupboard ministers and officers, except the native city planners.
TOI had reported how this Sunday over 200 saplings had been planted by the Kharghar residents between sectors 19 and 18, whilst also retaining placards stating `Save Our Pond'. Some of the societies which participated in this folks's movement incorporated Dream Heights, Payal Heights, Monarch Orchid, Kesar Symphony, Triveni Apartment, Suyash Heights, Solitaire Apartment, Pooja Residency, Residency Crest and Shivdarshan CHS.
When TOI contacted the senior Cidco officer in-charge of Kharghar node, S Rokade, he said: ``According to the planning division, the area (between sectors 19 and 18) is a low mendacity space, however no pond is earmarked there. So the residents must talk to the Cidco planning division about it.''
However, Singh said: ``We have been seeing the waterbody at the web site for nearly 15 years. So even if it isn't marked at the Cidco map, they must now achieve this with a purpose to save the waterbody from debris dumping. Several wetland birds also talk over with this position.''
