Nigerian held for staying in Gurugram without visa, passport

GURUGRAM: A 31-year-old guy from Nigeria used to be hung on Monday from close to Old Jail Chowk for staying within the town since 2012 and not using a valid passport and visa.

Jiya Uddeen used to be arrested after patrolling cops took him into custody as a suspect. When they requested for his visa and passport, they found his visa had expired in 2012 and passport used to be valid until May 2, 2016.


Uddeen used to be taken to Civil Lines police station. During interrogation, he advised police that he had come to India in 2012. Uddeen is proficient in Hindi and used to teach it to different Nigerians in Gurugram.


On the foundation of a grievance by ASI Dalbir Singh, an FIR has been registered towards Uddeen under sections three and 14 of The Foreigners Act, 1946, at Civil Lines police station. Police have knowledgeable the Nigerian embassy about his arrest. “Both his passport and visa had expired, and he used to be illegally dwelling in a rented lodging in Sector 54. We produced him in a town court on Tuesday. He used to be sent to judicial custody. A legit knowledge used to be sent to the involved embassy,” said the ASI.
