No heavy vehicles on Athupalam-Ukkadam stretch from May 26

Coimbatore: Heavy industrial vehicles is probably not allowed on Athupalam- Ukkadam stretch from May 26 due to the development of Ukkadam flyover.

In a gathering chaired by way of the deputy Commissioner of Police (site visitors) Sujit Kumar with state highways division (SHD) on Tuesday, it was determined that site visitors diversion plan to succeed in Pollachi Road and Palakkad Road will be applied if the stretch sees large site visitors.


“We won’t block all the stretch from Athupalam to Ukkadam for the flyover building work. All the buses, automobiles and two-wheelers will be allowed. However, heavy industrial vehicles will be blocked from May 26. They can reach Pollachi Road or Palakkad Road through Nanjundapuram Road,” Sujit Kumar said, adding that all over night, heavy industrial vehicles will be allowed in the usual direction.


The officials from the SHD said there is no want to block all the stretch as they have deliberate to construct 3 pillars per 30 days.


The work on the Ukkadam flyover began on April 29 and the SHD was requested to finish the work inside of a period of 30 months. The executive goes to spend Rs 216 crore for the 1.97 km duration flyover from Athupalam –Ukkadam. However, in step with sources, SHD officials have determined to finish in 20 months.
