Coimbatore: Chief minister Edappadi Okay Palaniswami is more likely to open the city police museum for the general public on Thursday at 10.30am. A minimum fare would be charged from the visitors.
“We have finished the entire paintings and are looking ahead to the opening. Chief minister is scheduled to wait the flower display at Udhagamandalam on May 18. He will come to Coimbatore and is more likely to open the museum on May 17 round 10.30 am,” said a police officer.
On show are guns seized from wooded area brigand Veerappan, a mini submarine seized from Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a tank used for Kargil warfare in opposition to Pakistan and guns seized from Malayoor Mambattiyan.
The credit score for setting up the city police museum goes to the previous town police commissioner, A Amalraj, who came up with the idea to transform the 100 year-old Hamilton Club development into museum.
The development used to be bought via British police officer FA Hamilton for the police in 1918. After 1951, the Harvey block, one of 3 blocks of the development with 18 rooms, used to be let loose to cops above the rank of sub-inspectors. Police officers then planned to demolish the development because it used to be in a poor condition because of loss of upkeep.
However, Amalraj made up our minds to avoid wasting the development and remodeled it completely and converted it into police museum in 2017.
The town police, meanwhile, introduced an army tank used in Kargil warfare in opposition to Pakistan and put on show on the museum. The tank used to be introduced from Indian Army camp at Pune.
A mini submarine, which used to be built via the LTTE at Mahabalipuram in 1990 and seized via Q department in Chennai, used to be also brought to the museum, which also options two lathe machines utilized by LTTE for making weapons in Coimbatore till 1990.
Another appeal is machines used for printing 100 counterfeit foreign money notes. The machines were seized from a businessman named Krishnan in 1958.
The museum has also on show a complicated boat utilized by the coastal security group and a canon manufactured from cast iron. The canon used to be partially damaged in the well-known 3rd Carnatic warfare, 1760. It used to be introduced from Argot police station in Vellore district.
According to a senior police officer, the museum has also on show bomb suits, style land mining, quite a lot of kinds of dummy bombs, British-period cameras used in police division, a sword presented to the police division via the previous leader minister MGR.
