AHMEDABAD: An 82-year-old girl, who used to be banking on her postal deposits to sustain independently in outdated age, felt crestfallen when she got to grasp that the money she and her husband had stored through the years, Rs 19.five lakh, used to be long past because the postal agent she trusted cheated her of the money. According to investigators, Prerna Dholakia, a resident of Bhagwatinagar Duplex, Naranpura, used to be a part of a Mahila Mandal when her circle of relatives used to be dwelling on hire three decades ago close to Usmanpura. At that time, she and her husband had come in touch with Pravin Shah and his wife Sheela right through a gathering. The couple inspired the Dholakias to opt for postal financial savings. The couple through the years stored aside sum and steadily invested in numerous schemes. Dholakia’s husband died in November 2004.
“In 2012, Pravin Shah urged her that all the cash that they have got in numerous schemes will have to be consolidated for higher returns. She agreed to the proposal. Shah counted the money which turned out to be Rs 19.five lakh. He then urged her that she put money into a scheme with lock-in period of six years and 12% interest rate. She would get Rs 33.five lakh at maturity. She agreed to it and gave him a go-ahead for the funding,” stated a Vadaj police professional.
Shah passed on to the great beyond in September 2016. In March 2018, Dholakia’s daughter went to GPO to get the money once they got a surprise that the money she claimed used to be never deposited with the postal department. The circle of relatives then faced Sheela Shah who confessed that her husband had no longer deposited the sum but had given it to somebody. She had promised that she would go back it quickly. When no action used to be taken from her aspect for three months, the circle of relatives decided to press fees.
