Punjab govt to allocate funds to animal husbandry sector

LUDHIANA: Punjab govt will allocate half of its agriculture budget to the animal husbandry sector as a way to reinforce the livelihood and profitability of small as well as landless farmers thru pig and goat farming across the state in the coming years.
Punjab state farmers’ commission chairman Ajay Vir Jakhar announced the similar all through a state-level consultation held to discuss better facilities for farmer and increasing farm animals farming in the state at Guru Angad Dev Veternary University right here on Sunday.

Elaborating the issue, Jakhar said, “There is a wonderful scope in pig and goat farming as each the species can meet the calls for of the society for dietary safety. The number of pig farmers must be higher from 700 to 7,000 in the state.”

“Moreover, members of the Progressive Pig Farmers’ Association will have to train, encourage and reinforce farmers of his area. The current bank loan schemes will have to be redrafted in session with GADVASU in order that the similar may be submitted to NABARD for approval,” Jakhar said.

He informed the media fraternity, “For the treatment of animals, the OPD charges will have to be decreased in several prominent medical care centre as identified by means of one of the crucial farmers. The Punjab State Farmers’ Commission will start up a helpline number the place farmers can file their complaints.”


Farmers indulged in goat as well as pig farming participated in the consultation at the side of officials of the University and State Animal Husbandry Department.


Dr Amarjit Singh Nanda, vice-chancellor, GADVASU, revealed that the university will prepare 4 different models for viability of pig farming in the state. He also said that the university is competent sufficient to train new and current farmers for offering abilities in goat and pig farming. He prompt goat farmers to bring goat milk after pooling to the university for pasteurization, packaging at university milk plant, which can be offered at inexpensive prices.


Singh elaborated at the quite a lot of projects taken by means of the dep. for pig and goat farmers.
