Rail ticket vending machines fail to accept new currency

LUDHIANA: Sanjay Sharma was miffed. He tried to generate a price tag for Amritsar from Ludhiana from the merchandising machine the use of the brand new denomination notes. However, after attempting for 15 mins, he gave up and went to the general price tag counter.
In a hope to avoid status in an extended queue ahead of the general price tag counter, like Sharma, many daily commuters tried to generate tickets from the merchandising machine the use of new denomination notes. However, good fortune didn't favour many.

The old-fashioned sensors of these machines are unable to learn the specific codes of the brand new denomination notes, which have been launched quickly after demonetisation in 2016. Now, this has left the passengers fuming.

To make issues worse, there are no forums or instructions from the railway government to warn the passengers about this glitch in merchandising machines. Hence, passengers continue to stand in the queue in front of these old-fashioned merchandising machines, which can be nonetheless accepting outdated denominations.

During a discuss with to the station, TOI witnessed several passengers, who after failing to generate a price tag, moved to the general counters. Take the example of Deepak Kumar, a passenger travelling to Ambala. "I reached the station on time to catch a train, which usually arrives at platform number 2. However, I got late as I was busy waiting for the vending machine to generate my ticket. But the machine kept rejecting the currency," rued Kumar.

Sources in the railway division stated those price tag merchandising machines were put in more than a yr ago. After demonetisation when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched new currency notes of Rs 200, Rs 50 and Rs 10 denominations, the sensor of these price tag merchandising machines may now not learn the code printed on the new currency notes and rejected them.

Passengers also complained a few former railways officers had been deputed as a facilitator close to the price tag merchandising machines to assist the passenger in generating tickets. However, they are provide only for a limited time.

Divisional commercial railway supervisor Ferozpur Division, Monu Luthra, stated, "The railway authorities will soon put up a notice board specifying the denominations and the currency which will be accepted by these ticket vending machines to avoid inconvenience. Besides, we would find a concrete solution and update the respective sensor system as well."

No tickets for premium trains

As many as 10 automatic price tag merchandising machines were put in by the northern railway government at Ludhiana railway station to take on the issue of enormous rush witnessed at general price tag booking counters. However, because of non-upgradation of the sensor system, the machines fail to accept the brand new currency notes.

New currency notes of Rs 2000, Rs 200, Rs 50 and Rs 10 denominations don't seem to be accepted by the price tag merchandising machines because the sensor system fail to learn the specific code printed on them.

In those price tag merchandising machines, a passenger can get a general price tag from Ludhiana railway station to their respective vacation spot in specific and passenger trains passing throughout the town railway station. However, passengers can not obtain premium teach (Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto) tickets from those machines because those trains do not need general coaches.
