Rly Board firm on New Garia-Airport Metro route

KOLKATA: With the Railway Board sticking to its authentic plan for the New Garia-Airport Metro path, the state now needs to take a choice at the fate of the oneway flyover from New Town getting into the airport. Earlier, the state had proposed to terminate the New Garia line at Haldiram’s with an interface with the East-West line and lengthen the latter to the airport. This, felt railway officers, will require demolishing the flyover.
In a contemporary assembly, Rail Vikash Nigam Limited (RVNL) — the executing company of the Metro alignments in Kolkata — had defined to the PWD additional leader secretary the importance of the New Garia line attaining the airport where it'll have an interface with the Dum Dum-Barasat hall.

“Among all infrastructure initiatives worldwide, Metro will get the best possible precedence. Almost all imaginable tactics and approach alongside the alignments have been evaluated and the unique plan fits the bottom reality. Alternative choices would possibly require dismantling of current structures,” said Railways assets. The ultimate name will be made via state leader secretary Malay De.


Though the state has commissioned RITES for a find out about of traffic and technical feasibility of the proposed extension of the East-West line until the airport, the Railway Board disapproves the idea. The state reasoned that the East-West line having stations at two major railway transit points — Howrah and Sealdah — may serve the next selection of passengers. RVNL felt terminating the New Garia line at Haldiram’s on VIP Road would now not serve the purpose.
