LUDHIANA: The police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers who struck at yarn factories, with the arrest of 7.
Sazmi of Badera village in Saharanpur; Muhammad Afzal, also of Saharanpur; Muhammad Nadeem; Muhammad Sonu; Muhammad Mubarak; Deepak Sharma, a driving force and resident of Tibba Road; and Gurmeet Singh of Nakodar have been arrested on a tip-off.
Commissioner of police Sukhchain Singh Gill mentioned a check put up was once set up at Seedha highway T-point at 7am on Tuesday. A pace was once stopped and on checking 3,000 kilograms of yarn was once recovered from it. Besides, sharp-edged guns have been recovered from the ownership of Sazmi, the kingpin, and Afzal.
Police mentioned the crowd would strike at hosiery factories at night time and dangle their employees hostage.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Gagan Ajit Singh mentioned with their arrest, 13 instances of robbery of yarn from factories have been solved. Their 3 buyers — Arif Muhammad, Saleem Baggar and Muhammad Gulzar, all residents of Tibba Road — have been but to be arrested.
“The gang had been lively in the town for the past 5 years. It was once taken with a number of instances of robberies in factories in Sahnewal, Focal Point and Meherban. A CCTV pictures procured from a unit helped establish them,” the DCP added.
As many as 36 packing containers and 23 baggage of looted yarn have been seized. The mini truck they used to devote the crimes has also been impounded.
Several loot instances have been registered in Ludhiana against Sazmi and Afzal, who had been declared proclaimed offenders.
A case under sections 379-B (snatching), 380 (theft in living, house and so forth), 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night time in order to devote offence punishable with imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.
