Thunderstorm: Haryana cancels officials' leaves

GURUGRAM: The Haryana executive has cancelled leave of all officials in municipalities across the state, in view of the IMD issuing an alert forecasting thunderstorm and squall the next day in different portions of north India.

Fire and other emergency services and products, too, have been directed to stay alert.

The instructions have been issued via the state executive after a meeting of Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain with senior officials of her division here.

The assembly was called to study the preparations made in view of the alert issued via the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

It is the responsibility of the state executive to make other people conscious and to take precautionary steps to prevent any roughly loss to lives and assets, Jain stated.

She directed that there should no longer be any dereliction of duties and all officials involved should discharge their duties with utmost determination.

The IMD today issued an alert forecasting that a number of portions of north India may just witness thunderstorm and squall the next day with winds gusting as much as 50-70 kilometers in keeping with hour.

The IMD issued an amber-coloured alert, indicating critical climate, for portions of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal.

Several portions of these states may just witness thunderstorm and squall with winds gusting as much as 50-70 kilometers in keeping with hour, the alert stated.

Meanwhile, Director of the Chandigarh MeT Department Surinder Paul stated that rainfall process is most likely to pick out up within the region from this night.

"There is no need to panic, but we need to be watchful and remain alert," Paul stated.


Notably, the Haryana executive had ordered closure of schools on May 7 and 8, with Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma the day before today pronouncing that the decision were taken in view of the MeT warning.


While there were no directions via the authorities to close faculties in Chandigarh, however some faculties took the decision on their very own and announced a vacation on Monday as a precautionary measure.


Many faculties here announced a vacation mins prior to the educational institutes have been to open, forcing many students to return to their properties.


Meanwhile, the weather remained in most cases dry on Monday and winds remained calm in maximum portions of Punjab and Haryana.
