MADURAI: Two males, who had been participating in a temple pageant at Athipatti in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, had been electrocuted when they got here in contact with an illegal electrical line on a fence. The mishap happened when the duo -- recognized as G Mathankumar, 23, of Rengapalayam and his buddy N Thangaiah, 27 -- went to urinate near the fence around 2.30am.
It is suspected that the organisers of the temple pageant had been drawing electricity from a nearby transformer using an illegal line. It could also be suspected that electricity was passing in the course of the fence as the illegal line touched it.
The procession of the deity and the other rituals had been over via 10pm on Monday. However, the duo stayed back observing cultural programmes organised as part of the pageant.
The Saptur police registered a case and had been investigating. Higher police officers additionally visited the spot.
