BHUBANESWAR: Twenty more venomous snakes, together with five adult cobras, have been discovered from the home of Bijay Bhunya at Shyampur village in Bhadrak district on Sunday. Even as panic gripped the village as information of the discovery of such a lot of snakes unfold, masses of folks from close by spaces accumulated on the village to witness the incidence.

On Saturday, more than 100 cobra hatchings have been discovered slithering underneath the ground of Bhunya's thatched-roof area.


"With people thronging the spot, we have been facing problems in finding and capturing the snakes in the house and the nearby areas. I believe the snakes entered the house to get some respite from the scorching heat. The family members too did not disturb them due to some religious beliefs. So they found a safe haven here," stated a local snake rescuer Sheikh Mirza. He added that the rescue operation will continue for the following two days.


"We will wait till tomorrow before releasing these snakes into their natural habitat in Hadagarh Sanctuary area. The unusual occurrence of so many snake hatchlings and adult snakes being found in one place has created curiosity among people," S K Rout, range officer, stated.


Bhuyan's six-room area has been dug up to to find more snakes. The area additionally had a termite mound, which the snakes had made their home. The family members would worship the mound.
