3 held with 32kg gold smuggled from China

SILIGURI/KOLKATA: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have arrested 3 Maharashtrians who were smuggling 32kg gold into the rustic from China.

The seizure is one of the greatest in recent times in east and northeast India.


During interrogation, the suspects revealed that the gold used to be smuggled in from Indo-China border at Sikkim and would be dropped at Kolkata subsequent. The rented-car wherein the suspects were travelling in, used to be intercepted at Siliguri. The DRI officials found 32 gold bars of 1kg each fixed to their waists with the assistance of specially tailored belts. The suspects had additionally rented a house in Siliguri, from the place the DRI officials recovered Rs 20 lakh.


In a separate incident, the Border Security Force seized 1.3kg gold from Haridaspur in Bongaon on Friday. The service - seeking to flee on a cycle - had the gold in a nylon bag. Twelve gold biscuits price Rs 44.15 lakh were found throughout the bag.
