70 tribal families set to move into new houses

Mysuru: Nearly 70 households of forest dwellers, who surrendered their forest rights, at the moment are in a position to transport to their new houses constructed through the forest division under a new rehabilitation scheme.
As many as 210 houses were constructed at Bheemanahalli in Heggada Devana Kote (HD Kote) taluk for households of traditional forest dwellers and Scheduled Tribes, who've been residing within the woods for aeons. All the homes were supplied with the elemental amenities such as water supply, electrical energy, connection to underground drainage gadget, et al. All houses were constructed in a 50ftx80ft plot.

Besides the homes, the households also are entitled to a three-acre plot as regards to the forest, and shall be approved to go into the woods to gather minor forest produce and shall be granted ‘powers’ to lend a hand the forest division conserve its assets and wildlife.

Bheemanahalli is around 10km from the border of Nagarahole forest.

A forest division legit stated that the homes would be handed over to the households later this week. “The meeting elections not on time the process. Otherwise, the rehabilitation process would were completed in overdue March,” he added.


Director of the Nagarahole National Park R Ravishankar showed to TOI that 70 tribal households were in a position to transport to their new houses at Bheemanahalli. “The houses were constructed under a special package deal of the central executive. We will rehabilitate 100 more households, who're voluntarily surrendering their rights, in several stages and different areas of the forest,” he stated.


Under the Centre’s scheme, forest dwellers residing within the core areas of the nationwide park volunteering to surrender their rights and prepared to accept the government’s rehabilitation scheme, were offered houses with open spaces. In a bid to make sure that the tribals were at ease of their new residing, all houses were provided open spaces that can be used to accommodate livestock and different livestock. The process commenced in 2015-16. “We have known greater than 1,800 forest dwellers residing in several parts of the nationwide park,” stated Ravishankar.


He added that, to begin with, the department had constructed 210 houses.
