Bike on wrong side of Bandra bridge hits cop

MUMBAI: A police constable sustained injuries whilst making an attempt to stop a rushing bike on the incorrect side of U Bridge in Bandra (W) early on Wednesday. The three men, who had been on the bike, suffered minor injuries when they fell off the car.

Doctors said that police constable Sanjay Prabhu, who had sustained more than one injuries on the face, jaw and legs, is out of risk.

“Around 3.30am, we won knowledge from the regulate room about rash driving on U Bridge. Within 15 minutes, an officer and six to seven constables in three police automobiles reached the spot,” said an officer from Bandra police station.

On spotting the three men on the bike driving on the incorrect side of the bridge, Prabhu tried to stop them. The biker, Akash Kahar (22) from Chembur, could now not regulate the rushing bike and rammed into him, said the police. Kahar, and his two friends—Fahad Shaikh (19) from Kurla and Irfan Shaikh (24) from Worli—who had been driving pillion fell on the street. All four had been admitted to the nearby Bhabha Hospital.


Prabhu told TOI. “Cases of rash driving and rushing are often reported within the early hours.”


Kahar has been booked on charges of rash driving and assaulting a public servant. The police are yet to decide on whether or not or to not arrest him publish discharge from medical institution.


On Wednesday, around 2am, four bikers had been caught racing close to Bandra-Worli Sea Link, said the police.
