BJP-Cong spar over poll funding, to collect money through 'sale of coupons’

BHOPAL: With meeting elections not far away, the BJP and Congress have crossed swords over managing ballot funds with an eye on a goal of amassing Rs 50 to Rs 100 crore in the subsequent four months. BJP, who had been receiving absolute best corporate donations, has decided to approach public for small contributions and assigned its leaders to convince a minimum of 2000 people in each and every meeting constituency to contribute in opposition to the ballot fund.
"We want public contribution in poll funding and decided to collect money through sale of coupons like previous year, but of smaller denomination. Coupons of Rs 500 to Rs 2000 will be printed to collect public donations though, no target has been decided so far", BJP ballot fund elevating committee convener, Krishna Murari Moghe told TOI.

He stated the Election Commission in its tips clearly discussed that political parties can acquire in cash as much as Rs 10,000 and thru cheques over this. We had circulated coupons all through previous meeting and Lok Sabha elections searching for a donation of Rs 2000 and Rs 5,000 however, after feeble response decided this 12 months to gather small contributions from the public, he added.

BJP fund elevating committee member and state treasurer, Hemant Khandelwal stated that the birthday celebration has asked the workers to approach every house in their constituency to convince the people contribute to the birthday celebration’s election fund.

“If we could persuade a minimal 1500 to 2000 people in a constituency to contribute Rs 500 to Rs 2000 for the birthday celebration, it could be a big good fortune comparing to previous election years”, Khandelwal told TOI.

As in step with the reports, the Election Commission had all through Karnataka meeting elections in April-May, set the marketing campaign expense restrict in step with candidate at Rs 28 lakh from Rs 16 lakh in 2013. This integrated public meetings, rallies, posters, banners, vehicles and advertisements in print and digital media. Increase in the number of electors and polling stations and the cost inflation index have been one of the most causes cited for mountain climbing the expenditure ceiling.

With this extended restrict, political parties in Madhya Pradesh can spend a minimal Rs 65 crore on 230 seats. Leaders in major political parties like Congress and BJP even though, put the expense in step with candidate to a minimal Rs three crore in a rural constituency to Rs 20 crore in some urban constituencies to win an election, stated resources. But both the parties have different claims on ballot funding.

"Congress always depend on public contribution to manage its poll fund and collect money through sale of coupons. 70% of the Congress funds are managed through coupons during assembly and Lok Sabha polls. But, BJP is trying to convert its black money to white through this exercise", stated Congress state media in-charge, Manak Agrawal.

The BJP even though, rejected Congress allegations on `unknown supply of funding' and stated that Congress will have to learn how to gather funds and observe Election Commission tips.

"This is cheap politics. Congress had no public support thus crying hoarse on poll funding. The party should clarify where from they will get the fund if not from the public contribution", Moghe reacted sharply.

During its fund committee meeting in February, BJP had set a goal of Rs 12 crore as lifetime membership collection under its `Aajeevan Sahyoj Nidhi'. The birthday celebration had also circulated coupons to control its fund through public contribution.
