BENGALURU: The industrial tax division has gathered Rs 66 crores from the GST defaulters within the final fortnight as part of its ongoing enforcement drive.
The tax officials have discovered right through the drive that big avid gamers together with a number of industrial department shops have gathered tax from shoppers but did not remit the cash to the government.
“It is a significant offence that the investors have gathered tax but not handed over the same to the government. We are discovering such cases and beginning motion towards the defaulters,” said an official from the economic tax division.
Last week, the enforcement squad performed a wonder inspection at a mall and located that the provider provider has defaulted on remitting tax to the government to the music of Rs 6.77 crore. The mall proprietor had rented out 288 assets gadgets and collected at 18 % GST amounting to Rs 6.77 crore between December 2017 and April 2018, but didn't remit the same amount to the government. A division communication said, the squad has discovered 33 such cases amounting to Rs 66.02 crore within the final two weeks.
Tasked with mopping up revenues to check as much as the wishes of the brand new JD(S)-Congress coalition government, which has promised to waive farm loans to the music of Rs.1.14 lakh crore, the economic tax is feeling the power as the GST collections are falling month-on-month. The division gathered Rs 3,3990 crore thru SGST (state element of GST) in April, whilst the gathering dipped to Rs 2,697 crore in May and the falling revenues have triggered the officials to move at the enforcement drive.
While 20th of each month is the final date for the registered dealers to remit the tax gathered, the economic tax commissioner Srikar MS said an intensive review of the non-filers of tax returns is being taken up.
“Last date for submitting GSRT3B (tax returns) for the month of May is 20th June…Pay tax due and document returns on time to keep away from notices and motion as per regulation…” the commissioner tweeted.
