BENGALURU: A case has been registered towards 3 officers of town civic body BBMP for allegedly botching up the sterilisation process of stray canines within the town.
Based on a grievance from NGO Civil and Green Warriors, the Cottonpet police registered the case on June 6 towards Joint Director of Animal Husbandry division Anand, Assistant Director Basavaraj and Animal Birth Control Centre in rate Abhilash Maddur.
They have been booked under segment 11 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act-1960 (mutilate or kill any animal in a cruel approach) and Section 428 (committing mischief of killing animal) and 34 (prison act via several other folks) of the IPC.
In her grievance to the commissioner of Bengaluru, animal rights activist Geetha Mishra mentioned that there were irregularities within the log sheet entries with regard to canines picked up from the streets.
There have been botched up surgeries, dirty kennels and substandard meals for the strays, she alleged.
Misra accused officials of no longer working on them and yet chopping a small portion of ear of the canine as a mark of id that the operation has been accomplished.
"To avoid identification by alert locals, these dogs are deliberately being relocated to the Kanakapura forest and other areas."
"This act of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is definitely attracting wild animals like Cheetah (leopard) and tiger into the city limits, thus creating a dangerous unnatural animal-human conflict," Misra mentioned in her grievance.
When contacted, Abhilash junked her allegations.
"Whatever she (Misra) is saying is wrong. We had allowed her two-three times to take pictures and videos. Why should we allow her if we were wrong? We have videos and photographs of all the dogs we catch and operate," Maddur mentioned.
"We used to send them to her by WhatsApp, but following instructions from higher authorities I later stopped the practice," he added.
