Centre, state tussle delays Bhubaneswar station redevelopment work

BHUBANESWAR: The proposed re-development of Bhubaneswar railway station is stuck in a tug-of-war between the Centre and state over the venue for signing of the MoU. Initially, both parties agreed to sign the MoU on January 20, 2018. It was once cancelled over some administrative inconvenience, reliable assets said.
On April 27, railways minister Piyush Goyal wrote to chief minister Naveen Patnaik for signing of the MoU at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, on May 23. But Naveen on May 21 suggested Goyal to come back to Bhubaneswar for it.

Goyal again on May 23 wrote to Naveen asking him to wait the MoU signing at New Delhi on a mutually convenient date on the earliest. The MoU dates were postponed two times over this tussle thus delaying station paintings.


In 2016, the state executive engaged the works division to build the brand new station development changing the existing passenger reservation machine (PRS) place of work. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) shifted the PRS place of work to a short lived shed close to the GRP police station in November that yr. But the paintings were given not on time further because of design exchange for Smart City initiatives.


On Saturday, finance minister Shashi Bhusan Behera said they need to sign the MoU in Bhubaneswar for the reason that undertaking is for folks of Odisha. “The railways must give us a date for the MoU signing ceremony,” he said. Senior railway officials declined to comment.
