Flood alert issued to people living on Bhavani river banks in Mettupalayam

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore district administration on Sunday issued a flood alert to people residing on the banks of the Bhavani river in Mettupalayam as the water degree of Pillur reservoir reached its most capability.

The water degree in Kunda dam in the Nilgiris reached the maximum capability due to heavy rain in the recent days, and 12,000 cusecs of water was being released to the Pillur reservoir.


As the water degree in Pillur reservoir reached the maximum capability, officials made up our minds to unlock 6,000 cusecs of water from there.


Coimbatore district collector T N Hariharan issued the flood alert and recommended people to move to more secure locations and not to move the river.
