CHENNAI: The central and state governments’ bold 277km Chennai-Salem greenfield highway project underneath the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme is selecting up tempo with the National Highways Authority of India, the imposing agency, publishing a notification for land acquisition in Tiruvannamalai district.

The highway will probably be named NH 179 A and 179 B. A complete of 1,900 hectares of land, including round 400 hectares of presidency poramboke land underneath 9 forest ranges in Tiruvannamalai and Kancheepuram districts will probably be acquired for the project. Maximum land will probably be acquired in Tiruvannamalai district as the street will pass via 74 villages in the district.
According to the notification, a total of 1,306 hectares of land, including government poramboke land, will probably be acquired for the project in Chetpet, Chengam, Vandavasi, Cheyyar, Polur and Tiruvannamalai taluks in Tiruvannamalai district. The land belongs to 7,237 folks. People in lots of villages are protesting in opposition to the project. Farmers may be compensated two to three occasions their land worth.
‘Farmers could be compensated through 2-Three times the land worth’
