BEIJING: China lashed out at the United States on Wednesday after a couple of B-52 bombers flew previous a Chinese-held shoal within the South China Sea, amid escalating words and presentations of army strength from the two main Pacific powers.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying warned the United States against "hyping up militarization and stirring up trouble," while promising that China would take all essential measures to shield its sovereignty.
The US "doing whatever they want is risky and China will not be threatened by any military warships," Hua told reporters at a day by day briefing in Beijing.
This week's flyby close to Scarborough Shoal, which China took from the Philippines in 2012, came after US protection secretary Jim Mattis accused Beijing of 'intimidation and coercion' within the South China Sea.
