The legitimate machinery sprung into action and initiated measures to desilt water channels and clear the blocks to verify loose glide of rain water in the city on Tuesday.
Collector TN Hariharan in conjunction with corporation commissioner K Vijaykarthikeyan and a group of officers from the public paintings department inspected the water channels in the city. They advised the employees to scrub blocks in the channels to verify smooth glide of water to the lakes.
Hariharan and Vijayakarthikeyan inspected the desilting works on Rajavaickal that takes water to Vellalore. The legitimate group found that the channel used to be narrow at a number of spots and used to be also blocked at few puts.
The inspection comes in the wake of call for from citizens as well as farmers that it used to be imperative to desilt water channels and clear the shrubs that block water in the wake of heavy rain. Since the lakes in the city had been interconnected, making sure a cascading glide of water from one to every other, blockages in the channels would obstruct the glide leading to overflowing of lakes upstream.
