COIMBATORE: A corporation bill collector was once stuck red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a resident of Ganapathy for a construction plan approval and to fix tax.
According to Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths, they arrested A Mala, 50, for taking bribe from Sivakumar, of Ganapathy.
Per week ago, Sivakumar approached the north zone company place of business for a construction plan approval. After filing all of the paperwork for a medical apparatus production unit to be arrange at Udayampalayam, he met the bill collector, Mala.
“She and her colleague Kalammal, assistant revenue officer of north zone, then again, sought cash for okaying the approval,” said DVAC inspector Kanagasabapathy. While the bill collector inspects the site and assesses the world of the property ahead of in accordance approval, the assistant revenue officer fixes the taxes.
Sivakumar, then again, lodged a complaint with the DVAC officials, who gave him chemical-coated currency notes and requested him handy over the similar to the company officials.
As planned, Sivakumar met Mala at 12.30pm on Saturday and gave her the chemical-coated currency notes. The DVAC officials stuck her while receiving the money.
“The assistant revenue officer was once absent, so lets not arrest her. But she had requested Mala to collect her proportion of the bribe as neatly,” Kanagasabapathy said.
The DVAC officials have registered a case towards Mala below Section 7 and 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Corporation officials said they'd take departmental motion towards the officials concerned.
