GUWAHATI: With no headway being made within the talks between All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) and 28 organizations representing quite a lot of tribes and communities of the state, the 29 organizations - being spearheaded by Aasu and the apex body of tribal organizations of the state All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS) - jointly introduced the next spherical of protest programmes on Saturday.
On June 29, a large 'Gana Satyagraha' will be organized in Guwahati, the organizations stated. "The dates of the Satyagraha to be organized in the districts will be decided at the district level later on. Aasu and 28 other organizations appeal to the people of Assam to gather at the historic Latasil playground in Guwahati on June 29 to oppose the bill by joining the Satyagraha march that is going to be a massive show of strength and solidarity of the indigenous people," stated Aasu president Dipanka Kumar Nath.
In a joint observation, the organizations stated, "If the government calls us to the discussion table on the amendment bill, we will sit for talks, but relentless movement will continue unless the Centre withdraws the bill that will prove fatal for the state," stated the observation.
Peasant group Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti demanded that the three AGP ministers in leader minister Sarbananda Sonowal's cabinet surrender their respective portfolios.
