COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Medical College government have knowledgeable the state govt that putting in a central authority sanatorium throughout the college premises would possibly assist after they increase their student consumption. They said putting in a sanatorium throughout the premises will assist scholars attend their scientific hours throughout the campus as an alternative of having to shuttle across the city to the federal government sanatorium daily. The college is operating to increase its infrastructure to lift student consumption from 150 to 250.

The Coimbatore Medical College had implemented to the Medical Council of India (MCI) for permission to lift their student consumption from 150 to 250 almost three years back. The MCI had rejected the application while giving them an inventory of infrastructures required to lift its consumption. “It contains more hostel facilities, larger study rooms, libraries and buildings,” said the college dean, Dr B Ashokan. “It comes up to a budget of Rs 1.2 crore consistent with new student or Rs 120 crore. Of this, the Centre will give us 60% and the state govt final 40%,” he said. “While the Centre has given us round Rs 2 crore to kick-start the work, the state govt will give their share of price range any moment now,” he added.


The government have said that when this infrastructure comes up it would be more straightforward for college students if a central authority sanatorium is set up throughout the college premises. “Though it is still within the dialogue level, we have communicated to them that the presence of a sanatorium throughout the college premises will save the students a 9km shuttle to and from the college to the sanatorium on a daily basis,” said Dr Ashokan. “It takes a minimum of part an hour on a daily basis and students spend part an afternoon within the sanatorium,” he said.


Health secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan said the discussions have been at the preliminary level. “We do have funding of round Rs 300 crore below the JICA scheme, and we do want to set up a brand new development but where the development goes to return up and whether we require a full-fledged sanatorium within the college is yet to be discussed or studied,” he said.
