BALANGIR: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday arrested an individual from Titlagarh railway station right here for possessing fake Indian forex notes value Rs 4.41 lakh.
The accused, who had boarded the 12835 Hatia-Yesvantpur Express at Bargarh railway station, has been known as Ramachandra Bhoi of Dukurla village beneath Bhatli police limits.
Police said Bhoi had boarded the train with a bag containing counterfeit notes in several denominations. He entered into an an argument with CRPF jawan Raj Upadhay when the latter requested him to prevent smoking throughout the compartment.
Things turned ugly when Bhoi assaulted Upadhay with a surgical scalpel injuring him critically. Following this, Upadhay together with some body of workers of the Railway Protection Force captured Bhoi throughout the train. Soon after the train reached Titlagarh station at round 3am, Bhoi was once passed over to the GRP.
Kailash Chandra Buruda, Deputy Superintendent of Police , RPF (Rayagada zone) said, "Police are investigating the fake currency racket and those who are using trains to circulate the same to different locations." Bhoi will likely be forwarded to courtroom tomorrow, he added. The injured CRPF jawan of Bastar battalion was once rushed to a nearby sanatorium.
